Kaunas Piano Trio Concert “Mirages”
Melodious and intimate Lithuanian musical mirages! At the beginning of April, composer Zita Bružaitė, together with the Kaunas Piano Trio, released a chamber music album titled “Mirages.” This debut recording features performances of the composer’s works by Lina Krėpštaitė (piano), Indrė Andruškevičiūtė (violin), and Asta Krištaponienė (cello). The album also includes the voice of baritone Giedrius Prunskus, featured alongside the Trio. IMstudija is a private piano school founded by teacher Irena Meldaikienė, which has been operating in Anykščiai for the past five years. Part of IMstudija also runs at the Eglutė kindergarten in Anykščiai, under the name Piano STARt (“The Start of Piano Stars”). An exhibition of graphic works by Lithuanian painter, printmaker, and stained-glass artist Vytautas Ignas, created during his years in exile in the 1970s–1990s, is currently on view at the Angel Museum – Center for Sacred Art (Vilniaus St. 11, Anykščiai). The exhibited works are drawn from the collections of the Angel Museum and the Beatričė Kleizaitė-Vasaris Art Gallery in Marijampolė. Western Sahara is the last remaining colony in Africa. For over half a century, its people have been living in exile, taking refuge in refugee settlements in neighboring Algeria—still within the vast Sahara Desert. This January, Andrius Mažeika—a traveler and photographic artist born in Suvalkija—spent an entire month living in one of these settlements. Kanutas Ruseckas (1800–1860) was a prominent 19th-century Lithuanian painter, renowned for his mastery of landscape and portrait genres. He was one of the few artists of his time who had the opportunity to study abroad, spending a decade honing his craft in France and Italy. While living in Rome, Ruseckas became interested in genre painting, capturing scenes from everyday life. During his travels, he sketched and painted Italian peasants, reflecting a growing fascination with rural themes.
