St. Matthew’s Catholic Church was designed by the architect N. Andrejevas more than a century ago and was built in 1909. This neo-Gothic church is not only the tallest in Lithuania (reaching 79 meters), but is also known for its artwork. In its right tower, at a height of 33 meters, lies an observation deck, offering viewers the everchanging panorama of the beautiful town.

The churchyard is surrounded by a neo-Gothic style wall with gates and chapels, picturing the stations of the cross, which in 1981-1988, Monsignor A. Talačka commissioned the self-taught wood sculptor Rimantas Idzelis to create.

The churchyard is decorated with additional sculptures by professional artists.

St. Matthew’s is a basilic type church with three naves and is distinguished by the ornate interior. The sanctuary is adorned by an oak pulpit, built in 1909, several confessionals and side altars, decorated with gilded oak carvings and sculptures. The cross vaults of the church are decked with crystal ornaments.

Beautiful stained-glass windows, authored by Marija Anortė Mackelaitė, adorn the central nave.
