From May 30 to July 19, we invite you to visit Lithuania’s Small Capital of Culture — Kurkliai. There, in the former Kurkliai Synagogue building (S. Nėries St. 4A, Kurkliai), an exhibition of ceramic works by Lina Bekerienė will be on view.
On May 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., you are invited to meet the exhibition’s author, Lina Bekerienė.
“To survive, you have to tell stories.”
— Umberto Eco
Lina Bekerienė shares her thoughts:
People are storytellers. Drawings on cave walls, medieval manuscripts, Gothic cathedrals, bridges and skyscrapers, novels and poems by poets are attempts to give meaning to our existence. Captured moments bear witness to our being on this Earth.
Every storyteller speaks in their own language. I tell the stories of people, birds, trees, and cities not with words. I shape them in clay and imprint in it a moment—the beginning of a story or a fragment of it—so that it does not disappear. My stories are not historical feats or grand victories. I speak about fragile existence, dreams, encounters, and change.
When you look at a work I have created, it already becomes a story created by you. You can not only read it, but also continue it or imagine a different one each time.
The exhibition is organized by the Anykščiai L. and S. Didžiulių Public Library and the Anykščiai Arts Center.
