Western Sahara is the last remaining colony in Africa. For over half a century, its people have been living in exile, taking refuge in refugee settlements in neighboring Algeria—still within the vast Sahara Desert.
This January, Andrius Mažeika—a traveler and photographic artist born in Suvalkija—spent an entire month living in one of these settlements. He listened to the people’s stories, participated in their daily lives, asked about the desert, and told them about Lithuania. Warmly welcomed, he invited the desert dwellers to visit us in return.
We invite you to join us for an evening of stories from the desert on May 7 at 6:00 PM at the Angels Museum – Center for Sacred Art (11 Vilniaus St., Anykščiai).
The exhibition and gathering are part of the project “Building Cultural and Civic Ties between Lithuania and Western Sahara”, implemented by the public institution Istornešiai. The project is supported by the “Connect for Global Change” program, funded by the European Union.
