On March 20, the joint painting exhibition Heart and Nail opened at the Chapel – the Cultural Creation Center of Anykštėnai of the World (Vilniaus St. 36). The exhibition invites visitors to see a collection of works created during plein-air painting sessions held at the Troškūnai Bernardine Monastery.
The Troškūnai plein-airs are a living tradition that began when Saulius Filipavičius was parish priest. Today, this initiative is being continued by painter and curator Ausma Bankauskaitė. Over the past six years, many professional artists from Vilnius and Kaunas have created here. It is a meeting of different summers, different perspectives, and one shared silence.
As exhibition participant and painter Akvilė Linkevičienė says: “The heart is the place where a person truly lives. Where the heart is, there is a person’s home. As it is said in Scripture: ‘Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.’ And what is a nail? A nail can be a wound, but it can also be a promise—that even pain one day becomes a place of resurrection. A nail is history. Or perhaps the philosopher’s stone? Or is it the point of history, or its very essence? Sometimes it is a sign of pain that pierces deeply and does not let you forget. Can the heart exist without the nail, as love without sorrow?”
Until April 7, stop by the Chapel – the Cultural Creation Center of Anykštėnai of the World (Vilniaus St. 36), where, we hope, you will find a heart and a nail that speak to you personally.
The opening was attended by Kęstutis Tubis, Mayor of Anykščiai District Municipality, also a painter Ausma Bankauskaitė, the artists, members of the Troškūnai community and the longtime parish priest of Troškūnai, Rev. Canon Saulius Filipavičius. Live music by Anykščiai pianist Guoda Indriūnaitė added to the atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who came!
